Many festival visitors will have travelled hundreds of miles to be there. Cumbria is an awe-inspiring stage but many who live here spend little time taking advantage of their privileged position. Perhaps it’s due to familiarity. We know this gorgeous scenery will always be there, so what’s the hurry? But time is passing. The lakes and fells will always be there. We will not. This spirit of adventure, fuelled by panic about making the most of life, sent me whirling into the Lakes with a question in mind: how much outdoor excitement can one person cram into a few hours here in Cumbria?
